AHHH! SNAKES! GROSS! I need a snake deterrent!?

dog deterrent

I don’t want snakes near my home or in my yard. My neighbor just found a 3 foot rattler and killed it. Many other neighbors in my suburban spot have also found snakes in their yards. I am not about to kill anything- because I would never even get that close-and I am not the killer type… but I would love to know if there is a simple, easy, natural SAFE way to deter snakes from my yard. I have kids & dogs, so it has to be safe for them too. I saw some pellets, but I don’t knwo if that is a gimmick or if anyone has tried them and they really work…THANKS!!
Okay, to some of the posters below: I said I do not like snakes, but I would NEVER kill one and I’m looking for a HUMANE option to deter them. Please answer with intelligence and relevance to the question.

Where can I get stool-eating deterrent for a cat?

dog deterrent

Please only respond if you ACTUALLY know, & are not just suggesting Google. I just found a kitten outside last week, which I am assuming is from one of the feral cats in the field across the street. She is only 4 weeks old & is very energetic. We’ve gotten her to use a litter box, but today she used it, and I grabbed a washcloth and when I came back her stool was gone, and her face smelled like it. I read that this can be a mental disorder in cats, and that this behavior can develop when cats are left alone without food or in cramped spaces. I don’t know how we can get her to stop doing this! The only stool-eating preventatives I can find online (Google, Amazon, Petsmart, Petco) are for dogs – there is nothing for cats! If you know of any, please help! I don’t have time to watch her every second of the day. Thanks!
thanks for the advice! My brother’s girlfriend took her to the vet & got the special formula & canned kitten food for her & she’s been on it for a week. She doesn’t seem to care for the formula, though. But today she managed to break out of her little "playpen" and ate all of their other cat’s canned food! She must have eaten about a full eighth of a cup & still wanted more. She looked like a balloon, & actually growled at me when & took her away from the bowl! Right after that is when she ate the fresh feces out of her clean litter box.

Do Ultrasonic Pest Repellers Work ?

ultrasonic dog repeller

Bell & Howell have some out that claim to repel ants, roaches, rats, mice, by just plugging them into an electrical outlet, also Good Life and Black & Decker puts them out. They ‘say’ not to use them if you have hamsters, gerbils, etc, but that they are safe for dogs & cats. I wish they’d make something like this for fleas, However, they are not all that inexpensive but if they work, they’d be worth their weight in gold, not to have an exterminator come every month for at least . We live in South Florida so here, it is a necessity to have pest control, and Florida is just one big ant hill as it is. If you have used these, please tell me.

My dog won't stop licking furniture and carpets what can I do?

dog deterrent

My 14 yr old Sheltie mix constantly licks the carpets, or any furniture she is sitting on. I don’t want this behavior to rub off on my other 2 dogs and I am constantly shampooing carpets & chairs. I have tried spraying Bitter Apple and Stay Off on certain spots, but I can’t really spray every inch of my floors with it and its only a small deterrent. I would really like to fix this behavior problem rather than just spray something to keep her from doing it temporarily. She has been doing this for awhile now and I’m all out of ideas. I’ve tried squirting her with a spray bottle when I catch her but it doesn’t even seem to phase her. I started taking her on walks more often and encouraging her to play with the other dogs thinking maybe she was bored, but that hasn’t made a difference either. This is also making her breath (which wasn’t pleasant to start with) even worse! If anyone has any suggestions or possibly a reason why she is doing this I would be happy to hear them. Thanks!

My dog keeps licking his wounds – any natural remedies?

dog deterrent

My dog (who ate his leg a couple weeks ago) is healing well, but won’t stop licking the wound. The tissue is starting to granulate back (except for the small area he ate again the other day – but that is looking better as well – btw don’t bother telling me I need a new vet – mine is great). But, we have tried all shapes & sizes of e-collars (cones) and he is a very sneaky, flexible dog & has managed to get around all of these within hours of first getting them. We’ve also tried an inflatable e-collar & a giant foam e-collar, but again to no avail he got around them. This week we’ve tried the bitter orange, I think he thinks it’s more of an appetizer than a deterrent. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of home remedies, something I could give him, or spray on the bandages to keep him from licking & trying to chew the bandages off? We keep the wound bandaged most of the day, we’ll keep it off for 2 hours every night after we clean it & apply the betadine mixture. And during the day while at work, and at night in his kennel (even with the e-collar on) he still manages to get the bandage chewed off (or chewed up a little – plus very soggy) almost every day. I would try the hot sauce idea I’ve read about, but he LOVES hot food/sauces, so I think he’d actually enjoy it more.
I’m asking people on the board because my vet has tried everything that she can think of. But I know that other people have had experience with pesky dogs like mine. I need some more ideas to try because even though he’s mostly licking the wound, he did eat his leg again the other day (down to the tendons), but this time only a chunck about the size of a half-dollar (luckily not the size of my hand this time).
He ate his leg because two weeks ago he had a really bad staph infection, cleared the infection up when he ate it, but the wound must still be bothering him (according to my vet), even though he is on pain killers, anti inflammitory meds, & antibiotics. I also use the carevet (I think that is what it’s called) goo spray on the entire wound everyday before we bandage him up.

Is there a natural deterrent I can sprinkle or spray to keep our dogs from peeing in areas?

dog deterrent

I have a very good, male dog…wouldn’t pee in the house. Now we have another dog living here who wasn’t well potty trained. So when the ‘not so good’ dog pees in the house my dog will lift his leg in the same spot the other one did. Both males & both older dogs. And, yes, we watch them, try to catch them in the act but we don’t always catch them. When we do we take them to the pee spot, scold them and make them go outside. It’s just not working so well. Is there anything I can use to keep them from wanting to do their naughty shenanigans?

Beware of Dog sign: good or bad?

dog deterrent

There has been a slew of B&Es recently on my street- even though we all have security alarms systems. Anyway, both of my neighbours have Beware of Dog signs on their houses, I don’t. I’m leary of putting one up because I think thay are kind of tacky looking and my ADT sign should be a deterrent enough, but it wasn’t for the neighbours who have been broken into.

What are your thoughts on Beware of Dog signs? My cat is more frightening then my puppy is.

Do the various ultrasonic animal repeller devices work against deer? example: Bird-X YG…?

ultrasonic dog repeller

…Gard and Bell & Howell models.
The deer are lovely animals but they are no respecters of property. They eat everything in sight including grass, flowers and vegetables. While we don’t want to harm them, we sure would like to drive them away. A friend of ours told us that there are various ultrasonic animal repellers but, while they are sometimes effective against dogs and cats, they probably don’t work with deer.
