How much garlic should I use to repel fleas on my dog?

repel dog

My dog weighs 4 lbs and my dad has garlic pills of about 2000 mg, I assume that’s way too much so about how much would be okay?
That disease is from onions, not garlic. And I’m not going to give my dog a lot, hence why I’m asking how much would be okay.

How to stop a destructive dog?

dog deterrent

We adopted a dog from the local shelter 3 months ago, and she’s great, except for one thing. She destroys EVERYTHING. We’ve had dogs our entire lives and we’ve never had one like this so we don’t know what to do. We got chew deterrent spray but it’s not doing anything. She has plenty of toys, including an interactive kong toy filled with treats, but she STILL destroys everything. Our tables and chairs are ruined, as well as three dog beds (hers and the two that belong to our other two dogs). One of my parents is, understandably, getting really really frustrated, while the other one just tries to hide it and pretend it’s not happening (not very responsible behaviour for a parent if you ask me). It remains though, that our house, and by extension, our family is getting destroyed by this dog’s destructive behaviour. She gets lots of attention and exercise too (though she could stand to get walked more often. I can’t do it as i’ve injured my ankle but my parent’s take her.)

What do we do? We’ve tried distractions and deterrents, but she waits until no one is in the room to destroy, so we have no chance of catching her and telling her off…My Dad wants to banish her to the garage forever because she isn’t improving (just getting worse), but even i know that that’s not the answer, she’ll just fester in her bad habits and it will get worse, but i also know that this is completely unacceptable behaviour that we can’t seem to fix, and his idea is starting to look like the only option. Given that we’ve tried everything we can think of, what else is there? I’ve suggested crating her when we can’t watch her, but my Mom (who is trying to hide all the destruction and lets it happen rather than addressing it) is completely against i, as she thinks it’s cruel. I think that while it won’t train her to stop destroying, it will at least prevent her from doing it, but she won’t hear of it.

What else can we do to stop this destructive behaviour, especially as she only does it when we’re not in the same room to watch her (ie: when we’re sleeping). We’ve tried everything we can think of, and it’s driving at least two of us crazy.

Biopsy for my dog, worth it?

dog deterrent

So I’ve discussed with a couple of vets and the most recent vet wants to do a biopsy.
This is what’s going on:

Since November my dog has been licking an area of her leg and will lick it raw. We keep a cone on her so she won’t. Whenever it fully heals we take the cone off but after a few days she starts up again.
The first vet we took her to said that it was habitual and we had to keep her better occupied. Since then I’ve been giving her lots of chews and she gets fed from a kong wobbler. I was already walking her every day. But the problem wasn’t going away. She also said to try benedryl (nothing) deterrents like bitter apple (I didn’t have any so tried lemon juice) and that pepper arthritis cream. Anything I put on would slow her down at first but she’d get used to it and actually made her want to lick more (she likes to clean herself).
So the second vet I discussed with said to try hydrocortisone cream. Again, anything we put on she just wants to lick off so it didn’t help. This vet also mentioned that boredom licking is usually lower down (her spot is above the elbow)
The third vet I asked again didn’t agree with the boredom licking. She’s not sure what it is but wants to do a biopsy. The estimate I got for this was 0 and I am very hesitant to pay for it because I feel like nothing will show up. BTW, there’s no lumps or anything. So, should I do it? I really don’t want to have her be a cone head the rest of her life but is it likely that something will come up on it?
I’m only 17 and only work 10-20 hours a week so spending that much is a bigger deal for me
My parents just paid for her tooth removal which was around 0 and they’re low on money until my dad gets his bonus in september so I can’t ask them.
She is 9 years old and we’ve had her for 6 years. She’s never lived outside since she’s been with us. When she was like 4 or 5 she did have a licking problem but I think it was lower down and she stopped after it healed.
All the consults have been free b/c the first was during her exam and included a follow-up, the second was with my teacher in my vet assistant program so that was free, and the third was during her dental follow-up so it was also free.

I need a dog for protection?

dog deterrent

So, i’m getting a dog. I am 17, I will be taking this dog to college. (im going to community college-ive researched pet friendly apartments) But my dad said I can get a dog at the latest Christmas, he will consider it sooner if I bring my grades up.

I know you should carry pepper spray/knife/cell for protection. But I would like a guard dog…more that looks the part though if you know what I mean? I will not train it to attack, it would end up put to sleep or something you should never train your family dogs to attack, I know its the dog itself not the breed-our family Labrador is very protective but labs are supposed to be friendly. I just want a dog that will be a deterrent/looks at least slightly intimidating. I also want an affectionate, loyal dog with short fur. I do really want a Beagle, but they arent exactly intimidating. Any breed ideas? I love Catahoula Leopard Dogs but my dad thinks they are ugly. Should I go with a Beagle even though they wont be good for protection?
haha no in alaska you can carry concealed weapons
im not in college now i do online homeschooling i have time for a puppy
ahh i want a mutt bad but its hard to get one where i live. its about 0 which is less than a purebred but they have to do a homecheck, interview, blah blah.
i plan on walking the dog twice a day and just letting it out to run and go on a hike on weekends. or a long trail.

What is the best deterrent to have to discourage break-ins by thieves? ?

dog deterrent

It would seem to make sense that if it were difficult to break into your home a thief would rather break into your neighbor’s home instead.

One of my aunt’s hubby layered a perimeter of a hedge in front with razor wire, cactus & sharpened steel spikes and assorted shrubs & flowers (to conceal the traps from the house’s view). They don’t like having dogs gallivanting on their property. Their front gates are electrified. My dad likes to say "at least they haven’t put in a moat with alligators – . . . yet".
