We share a house with our adult son and his finance. We all get along great, so no problems on that level. But I do have an issue when it comes to his outside dog.
Our son owns a pure white German Shepherd female, now 8 months old. She was taken care of great when she was a little puppy. However, now that she has grown in to a large adult dog she, in my opinion, is not getting the care she deserves.
He has her on a very long tie out in the backyard, with a kennel and a dog house, with the door hanging open. She has ample room to roam and play. She absolutely loves water, and she has a large kid plastic pool with fresh water for her to play in.
My problem is that I feel that he is neglecting her. He only spends about 15 min per day with her. Since the temps. have rises, the mosquito’s are wreaking havoc with the tips of her ears. The tips or her ears are a scabbed up mess.
I’m very concerned that she is not getting the attention that such a beautiful animal deserves. She is up to date on shots and all, but lacks human interaction. Anyone that approaches her is greeted with over excitement, and she jumps up on them. Given her size, and the lack of nail trimming, this is a great deterrent. At night she often howls, sometimes forcing him to bring her in, when he gets home from work around 2 am. Then he places her is an inside cage, where she stays until he gets up around noon. Then its back out on the tie out and loneliness.
Since I am disabled, and my husband works long hours, I can physically not handle her. And any time I mention her lack of care, I get my head bit off.
How can I make him understand that his beautiful dog needs more attention and training? Any suggestions?
I have 6 acres, I live in the country, and have a lush pasture I let grow for my dogs to enjoy. We mow paths through the pasture for the dogs to explore and play, and of course, tick are a consequence. I do not like to over medicate my dogs, I don’t believe in giving them every med that comes on the market. I know brewers yeast will repel mosquito’s, but what about those darn ticks? I have 10 of my own dogs, I foster for a dog rescue(over 300 adoptions at this point!!!) and I also do doggy daycare-anybody, anywhere use something??? I know tea tree oil for lice, garlic for intestinal parasites, but help me with the ticks….THANKS.

The idea was meant to drive away teens through ultra high frequency sounds much like how a dog whistle would affect dogs. It was an idea to make the storefront very uncomfortable for the loitering teens while leaving the money spending adult customers unaffected. The product was marketed as an ultrasonic teenager repellent taking advantage of the already well known ultrasonic dog repellent. The product blasts a continuous ear-splitting 17.4KHz sound wave (about the same sound an actual mosquito would make) designed to disperse loitering teens from the storefront while leaving adults unaffected. The MosqutioThe Mosquito, as the product was named, took advantage of a curious medical fact that most adults (and kids) are unaware of. Natural adult hearing loss is particularly acute at higher frequency ranges …
